Are Vapes Allowed in Airports?

As our time in quarantine begins to end and we start traveling more, it is important to review the updated regulations regarding vape devices in airports and on airplanes. As of September 2020, the Travel Security Administration (TSA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) both have issued detailed guidelines for carrying vape devices, and eJuice Direct is here to make sure the vaping community is up to date on current policies. According to the TSA website, carrying vape devices is allowed, however, there is a procedure that must be followed for everyone’s safety. Vape kits, mods, and pod systems present a specific hazard, as both batteries and vape juice can leak if not properly handled. e-Liquid bottles must also follow the 3mL limit in your carry-on bag, or you can put e-juice bottles in a sealed plastic bag in your checked luggage. TSA has outlined exactly how to fly with your vape kit:
“The FAA prohibits these devices in checked bags. Battery-powered E-cigarettes, vaporizers, vape pens, atomizers, and electronic nicotine delivery systems may only be carried in the aircraft cabin (in carry-on baggage or on your person). Check with your airline for additional restrictions. Remove all electronic cigarettes and vaping devices from carry-on bags if checked at the gate or planeside.”
As well, the lithium batteries in your vape device must be in your carry-on bag, as this type of battery can leak in the frigid, low-pressure cargo hold. According to the FAA website, batteries must also be kept in carry-on bags for safety:
Spare (uninstalled) lithium metal batteries and lithium-ion batteries, electronic cigarettes and vaping devices are prohibited in checked baggage. They must be carried with the passenger in carry-on baggage.
With these guidelines in mind, we can all travel safely with our vape devices, hooray! eJuice Direct appreciates the community’s efforts in traveling safely with any vape products.
